This coffee table book is for everyone connected in any way to this scenic and historical island. St. Eustatius has a broad variety of amazingly beautiful places. Hiking these 8.1 square miles, one comes across locations with vast beauty seen by few. From the steep and rough coast to the pleasantly sloping hills. From high towering rock formations to an ‘Indiana Jones’ jungle. From desert-like landscape to a towering volcano covered with moss and giant trees, overlooking stunning island scenery and beautiful skies. Pink orchids clinging to stone walls and seabirds in elegant dives with acrobatic landings in narrow crevices. Prompted and encouraged by comments on social media after posting about each hike along with photos, a coffee table book was the logical next step. So many people were in awe of what they saw. They had never before seen the majestic twists of nature and scattered remnants of the rich history of St. Eustatius. CNN named St. Eustatius as one of the 10 top destinations for 2022. Hiking is a holistic experience and during the pandemic it became a healthy addiction, uplifting the mind, body and soul. Through the photos of their hiking adventures, Leontine and Marion guide the viewer to some of the special places where hills, sky and sea meet with the past. They capture the magical moods of the beginning or ending of a day and the magnificence of the skies, rock-formations, flora, and fauna.

Dit fotoboek is voor iedereen die op welke manier dan ook verbonden is met St. Eustatius. Dit schilderachtige en historische eiland heeft een grote verscheidenheid aan waanzinnig mooie plekjes. Wandelend over dit eiland met een oppervlakte van zo’n 21 vierkante kilometer kom je op plekken met een enorme schoonheid die bij velen onbekend zijn. Van de steile en ruige kust tot de aangenaam glooiende heuvels. Van torenhoge rotsformaties tot een ‘Indiana Jones’ jungle. Van woestijnachtig landschap tot een torenhoge vulkaan bedekt met mos en gigantische bomen, met uitzicht op een prachtig landschap en indrukwekkende luchten. Roze orchideeën die zich vastklampen aan stenen muren en zeevogels die duiken met acrobatische landingen in nauwe spleten.

Aangespoord en aangemoedigd door reacties op sociale media na het posten van elke wandeling met foto’s, was voor Marion Schroen en Leontine Durby een fotoboek een logische volgende stap. Veel mensen stonden versteld van wat ze zagen. Nooit eerder hadden ze de majestueuze natuur en overblijfselen van de rijke geschiedenis van St. Eustatius gezien. CNN noemde St. Eustatius een van de tien topbestemmingen voor 2022.
Wandelen is een holistische ervaring en tijdens de Covid-19-pandemie werd het een gezonde verslaving, die lichaam, geest en ziel verheft. Door middel van de foto’s van hun wandelavonturen leiden Leontine en Marion de kijker naar enkele van de bijzondere plekken waar heuvels, lucht en zee het verleden ontmoeten. Ze vangen de magische stemmingen van het begin of einde van een dag en de pracht van de lucht, rotsformaties, flora en fauna.
